Mollie Zito is a senior director based in Chicago. As a senior director, Mollie helps lead the State Insight practice area and supports client work in Medicaid and commercial insurance markets. She specifically helps clients understand and respond to shifts in Medicaid policy and Medicaid managed care by conducting environmental scans, landscape assessments, and state Medicaid profiles.
Prior to joining Leavitt Partners, Mollie was general counsel for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services where she provided legal counsel, litigation advice, and strategy to the director and the office of the governor and worked with senior management to develop Medicaid and child support policy. She fulfilled a similar role as chief legal counsel for the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.
Mollie spent approximately 10 years working on health policy in the public and private sectors. During her tenure on Capitol Hill she drafted legislation and counseled four U.S. Senators on policy and legal issues related to federal health care reform, Medicare, Medicaid, public health, and private health benefit plans. She also helped to develop Medicare policy culminating in the successful passage of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 as staff for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. In the private sector, she directed the state government relations managed care and health reform campaigns by developing model legislation as a senior legislative attorney for the American Medical Association. She also monitored and analyzed legislation and regulation affecting health, life, and supplemental insurance in 25 states and at the federal level at The Trustmark Companies.
Mollie has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law.
