Personalized Health Care

DSC_3918Our Vision:
In the coming years, new gene-based knowledge, combined with the advent of health information technology, will make possible a new kind of medical care for Americans: personalized health care.

Of course, health care professionals have always attempted to make medical care as individualized as possible. But in truth, a physician’s ability to deliver the right care for each person has been limited.

We now have a more complete understanding of human biology at the molecular and genetic levels, where each of us is biologically unique. In the past, physicians would diagnose and treat on the basis of symptoms that can be seen and felt, but they have had limited access to the underlying biological processes, unique to each of us, that start with the “instructions” in our genes. The opportunities that present themselves today hold the possibility for decades of far-reaching advances, beginning with an understanding of each person’s particular susceptibility to diseases, as well as his or her individual responses to therapies. We can now personalize health care for the good of mankind.

Scientific knowledge is only the beginning point for personalized medicine. The application of this knowledge within the existing reimbursement and regulatory world require a unique understanding of both the science and structural components of the health care system.
